Kevin Rudd and Labor's Environment spokesman, Peter Garrett, announced the ALP's $489 million energy and climate plan in Perth today.

Speaking at a primary school in West Swan, Rudd and Garrett said the scheme would amount to a saving of 2.8 tonnes of carbon dioxde per year.

Under a Rudd government, every primary and secondary school in Australia would be able to apply for $30,000 grants to help them install solar heating, water tanks and green lighting initatives.

"This significant commitment will generate jobs and investment in Australia's sustainable industries and trades with significant educational benefits for students and communities," Rudd said.
