John Howard today marked World Diabetes Day with a $22 million pledge aimed at type one diabetes sufferers.

In a video posted on YouTube this morning, the PM says the funding will be used to help sufferers deal with the financial cost of the disease.

"A re-elected coalition government will contribute some $22 million over the next three years to subsidise the provision of some 3,000 additional insulin pumps.

"Insulin pumps are so very, very important - they cost about $7,000 apiece, that's a lot of money for some families."
