As Kevin Rudd delivered Labor's official policies to the nation, John Howard headed to Townsville for a relatively quiet day of local campaigning.
The PM stopped by a small construction company for a BBQ lunch, where he enjoyed sausages with coleslaw, and to pledge $10 million to help bring the V8 touring car championships to Townsville.
Former V8 racing champ Dick Johnson made an appearance, much to the delight of the crowd, but as a journalist for livenews.com.au traveling with the PM notes:
Cameras and bits of paper were pulled from nowhere so they could remember their brush with someone famous.
I can imagine the 50 staff at the lunch going home that day and saying, “Guess who I met today?”.
Chances are Mr Howard will be mentioned second.
