16:00 - Flanked by National Union of Worker representatives, Kevin Rudd has used a Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet report to attack the Federal Government over its spending on advertising campaigns. Rudd said the spending proved the Howard Government was more interested in "short term political expenditure" than in long term planning for Australia's future.
The Opposition leader has used the release of the figures to pledge that a Labor Government would only use taxpayer money declared acceptable by the Auditor-General for advertising campaigns.
10:00 - Kevin Rudd makes his way around Melbourne today, starting with a mobbing by school children at Berwick Secondary College, in the marginal Liberal seat of La Trobe. The Opposition leader was joined by local Labor candidate Rodney Cocks.
After the warm welcome, the even warmer weather caused one young girl to faint on the sidelines of a joint Rudd-Cocks press conference. The two men rushed to her aid.
