19:00 John Howard and Kevin Rudd today went head to head at the controversial leaders debate at Parliament House, in Canberra.
The Age's Michelle Grattan said Howard was "defensive", "scratchy" and "quite bad tempered", while Matthew Franklin of The Oz believed he was "well above par" in a "generally polite affair".
The Nine Network wormers gave the debate to Kevin Rudd, 65 voters to Howard's 29.
