Kevin Rudd would provide a $77 million boost to childcare in Australia, he announced in Sydney's south-west today.

Speaking at a childcare centre in Campbelltown this afternoon, Rudd said the money would go towards training and financial support for around 19,500 childcare workers, and a new independent rating system for centres.

"The first anxiety of a parent is the quality of the childcare, and whether the centre has been appropriately approved and accredited, and the quality of staff," he said.

"That's why we've got measures that deal with both of those things today."
